A key issue in the question of cancer biology is how do cells become cancerous. We have found that disruption of certain nuclear processes in the cell contribute to this process. One protein in particular, the eukaryotic translation initation factor eIF4E, when dysregulated, contributes to this transformation process. Our laboratory uses cell & molecular biological, biophysical and atomic resolution structural studies to elucidate the molecular underpinnings of the biochemical events which lead to cells becoming cancerous.
